HELP NEEDED!

Please consider being a Living Donor as my Aunt Kali needs a kidney, and our immediate family members are not a match. She is originally from Ambridge, PA (Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church). She also is a Penn State University graduate, a Daughter of Penelope, and current DOP Chapter President of Methone Youngstown, OH. She is the loving wife of Mark, mother to her 3 young adult children that were adopted from Russia as toddlers, and a caring sister and aunt.
This is a life-changing ask for my aunt. Kali (Kanakis) Sprankle was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 9 years old. For nearly 50 years, she’s managed her disease. But now her kidneys are worn out. Right now, she’s on daily dialysis treatments, and thanks to this, 4% of her kidneys are still functioning. But this won’t last for long. Dialysis is extremely hard on her body, and her life expectancy shortens every day. Kali has been approved for a Kidney Transplant and is on the Waiting List at both the Cleveland Clinic and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Her doctors say the best possible outcome would be for Kali to find a #LivingDonor before it’s too late. Unfortunately, members of our family did not meet donor requirements. So, we humbly ask for your help considering being a Living Donor.
If you describe yourself as “brave/gutsy/spirited/heroic” and want to change someone’s life completely this may be for you.
To find out more, visit:
Cleveland Clinic Donor Services. Or call (216) 445-3150.
UPMC Living Donor Services. Or call (412) 647-5800.
Or if this isn’t for you, but you know someone who may be interested, please share this message with your friends, family, and other contacts.
Some additional facts from the National Kidney Foundation:
• Most people on the Kidney Transplant list wait an average of 5 years before any kidney becomes available. We don’t have that long to wait.
• More than 101,000 people need a kidney, but only 17,000 people receive one each year.
• Every day, 12 people die waiting for a kidney.
• Anyone between the ages of 18 – 60 in good health could be a potential donor.
